File a new Unemployment Insurance claim here. Our online filing system has been improved to better serve New Yorkers. You may file your claim any day of the week (Monday-Sunday) from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM (Eastern Time).
New Yorkers who have already filed partial claims under the old UI system and were told to call the call center to finish their application should NOT - instead, the DOL call center will call these New Yorkers directly.

Boilermaker moves to September 13th, 2020
"For the first time since the race’s inception in 1978, the Boilermaker will not be held on the second Sunday in July. The 15K presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and Utica National Insurance Group 5K will be postponed and rescheduled for September 13th, 2020; the second Sunday in September.
This very difficult decision was made in concert with our medical support team, the NYS Department of Health and most importantly, with the safety and well-being of our runners, volunteers, staff and our community in mind.
We truly appreciate the support, understanding, and patience from each one of you as we've navigated through this unprecedented global challenge.

Daniel Barden Mudfest moved to October 31st
with Virtual Chalk the Walk on May 2nd
We’d like to bring our communities together when we all need it the most. While we had to reschedule our original Mudfest date of May 2nd because of the pandemic, we'd like to still honor that date by hosting our virtual “Chalk the Walk” event to share some smiles, joy and hope.
We’re asking you to get outside and create a positive message, whether it’s in your driveway with sidewalk chalk or paint, on a dirty vehicle, or by some other creative means (while maintaining social distancing, of course!) Then, post a pic of your message on your Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page (or all three, if you have them!). ***Make sure you tag Daniel Barden Mudfest in your post so we can see it, like it and share it!
When you donate $25 or more, you’ll receive a special-edition t-shirt, which will help keep our summer Daniel Barden Adventure Scholarship in place, allowing for children from both central New York and Connecticut to enjoy a summer adventure and bonding experience. While you don’t need to donate during Chalk the Walk to participate, your help is greatly appreciated: http://store.cnyracing.com/bepositive
Let's fill our communities with positive messages!

- AROUND TOWN -

The WCS Jr/Sr put together a video for their students.

Photos: Barton Hose Company
What became of the 150 homemade apples pies that were previously made and frozen in anticipation of the Barton Hose Company Palm Sunday Ham Dinner?
First they were given- to firefighter widows, active firefighters, honorary and auxiliary members.
Then, 1/car were sold Saturday morning to benefit the Fire Department, and we're told that they bake up deliciously!

Easter dawned vivid, but cold with some snow still lingering. Luckily it melted off and any outdoor egg hunts were probably manageable without winter gear.  We're especially hoping for comfortable weather when we receive photos of the postponed Waterville Rotary Club Egg Hunt in July!

These abandoned Main St windows waiting for either demolition or new life, were brought to life with new encouragements just in time for the Easter holiday as well.

Babbott Ave playground, and similar areas that would be difficult to keep distancing and cleanliness recommendations, remain closed. But the walking path, sidewalks, and local trails remain popular places to escape for a bit of fresh air.
As more information is discovered on COVID-19, outdoor recreation is still encouraged if it can happen solo, or with members of your household, and at a safe distance from others. This safe distance now includes a large span to avoid the droplets that travel further due to heavy breathing, wind, etc. as noted in this study that many news sources are picking up.  In sum: stay active while you're staying home (or at outdoor places nearby) and staying healthy- just do it safely.

- WEATHER - ***** - VILLAGE NOTES - Click for webpage with Full Notes  from Trustee Nichols Also from Trustee Nichols, an update on speed in the village. Data has again been retrieved from the Village's radar speed signs. The portable sign has been placed on NYS315 for the past 3 weeks. I have noticed first-hand that this sign's presence has made a huge difference in slowing vehicles down coming into the village. Reminder that the sign records data at the time the vehicle passes the sign, not when the vehicle first registers on the sign. Buell Ave (Route 315), from March 11 - April 1.
