High Risk Winter Sports Update
3:30 PM on Wednesday, February 3

Parents and Community Members:

At 1:55 PM on Wednesday, February 3, Dr. Spring, Superintendent of Schools, received the linked documentation from the Oneida County Health Department regarding high risk winter sports.

As a result of these guidelines, the district will need to make adjustments to the plan that was presented during the Tuesday, February 2 Board of Education meeting. This may delay the anticipated start date for sports, originally set for Wednesday, February 10. This delay may be necessary to ensure that the district plan complies with these new guidelines.

We understand the disappointment and stress these changes are creating for our student-athletes. As a district, we remain committed to getting our student-athletes on the court in as safe a manner as possible.

The kiddos in Learning Club are hosting a Bottle and Can drive to raise money so they can purchase gift certificates for our local educators and medical personnel for their tremendous support they have given us throughout the pandemic. Gift certificates will be purchased from local businesses, providing even more community support!

Please see event details regarding how to nominate a educator or medical professional for a gift certificate, how to drop off bottles and cans the day of and how to provide monetary donations to help our cause.

From Village Trustee Daniel Nichols:
A big “Thank You” to our local DPW, town, county, and state plow crews for working hard this week to keep our roadways open and helping keep excessive snow buildup in town under control.

We can vouch that they started well before dawn, and by the end of the day one could hardly guess there was a WCS snow day only a few days before.

If a Snow Day on February 2nd draws any memories, 10 years ago they had just the same. This year though, Punxsutawney Phil seemed to have learned a lesson and he saw his shadow. That makes it a more accurate prediction for 6 more weeks of winter.

As light passes through these hexagon-shaped ice crystals, it is bent at a 22 degree angle, creating a halo 22 degrees in radius (or 44 degrees in diameter). A double halo, sometimes with spokes, may be seen on rare occasions when light reflects off water or ice.      The prism effect of light passing through these six-sided ice crystals separates the light in...
