Jeff Reynolds captured the MVAS at the Waterville Public Library on Monday to see
Mercury transit across the Sun

***
Jody Hildreth also caught some great captures that he "stitched together."
"I took three photos at 7:41 am9:02 am, and 10:43 am.This was not an easy process, and fortunately I had a little experience from photographing the transit of Venus four years ago. I used a Canon 7D Mark II with a Canon 400mm f5.6 lens and a Sigma 2x teleconverter.  I attached a Variable Neutral Density Filter as well as handheld a second Neutral Density filter in front of the lens.  I shot in manual mode at ISO 100, f28, 1/8000 sec.  I stitched the three photos using Photoshop Elements 13."

As light passes through these hexagon-shaped ice crystals, it is bent at a 22 degree angle, creating a halo 22 degrees in radius (or 44 degrees in diameter). A double halo, sometimes with spokes, may be seen on rare occasions when light reflects off water or ice.      The prism effect of light passing through these six-sided ice crystals separates the light in...
