From Katie Parker, WCS Librarian
"Throughout the month of March, members of the Waterville school community competed to determine the best chess player at the Waterville Central School District via a March Madness Bracket-Style Chess Competition @ the school library  Thirty-two individuals, ranging from seventh graders to school administrators, signed up to demonstrate their prowess in the single-elimination chess tournament.  Chess matches were scheduled in the school library during students’ study halls and lunch periods.  On April 4th, after five grueling rounds, tenth grader Tyler Keith earned the 2016 Waterville CSD Chess Champion trophy and a three dimensional chess set.  Congratulations to all who competed!"

- ON THIS DAY -
In honor of Major League Baseball's Opening Day on Monday, April 4th:

"On this day in 1974, Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves hits his 715th career home run, breaking Babe Ruth's legendary record of 714 homers. A crowd of 53,775 people, the largest in the history of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, was with Aaron that night to cheer when he hit a 4th inning pitch off the Los Angeles Dodger' Al Downing."

- WEATHER - The June Summe Solstice takes place tomorrow, June 20th. At the June solstice, Earth is positioned in its orbit so that our world’s North Pole is leaning most toward the sun. As seen from Earth, the sun is directly overhead at noon 23 1/2 degrees north of the equator, at an imaginary line encircling the globe known as the  Tropic of Cancer  – named after the  constellation Cancer the Crab . This is as far north as the sun ever gets.  All locations north of the equator have days longer than 12 hours at the June solstice. Meanwhile, all locations south of the equator have days shorter than 12 hours. Click Here for more from EartySky Image via Marcella Giulia Pace.
