Harper Lee has passed away at age 89.
Lee published the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" in 1960,
and won the Pulitzer Prize the following year.
In 1962 the film was released with Academy Award nominations and wins.
Both the book and film are often considered essential to the American canon.
