- AROUND TOWN -

This morning there was quite the buzz  the GE power turbine made it's way into the village.  Arriving at about 9:40 am on Osborne Ave it slowly continued on, made the turn down Putnam St, down Main St, and out Madison St. There was such a large number of people who turned out to watch that it generated a parade atmosphere.

Brian Staring got the following information & pictures:
Largest Steam Turbine ever shipped made it's way through Waterville,N.Y. Today....A Pennsylvania-bound General Electric turbine, the 375,000-pound turbine is on the move from the GE plant in Schenectady to Jessup, Pa., where a power plant is under construction, a 225-mile route. This is one of six that is being moved.  According to DOT spokesman Jim Piccola, the moving assembly was 345 feet long, 19 feet 6 inches wide, and 18 feet tall, moving between two and four miles per hour. The moving assembly’s weight was 915,000 pounds, and 375,000 pounds of that weight came from the turbine itself. The steam turbine is the largest ever shipped fully assembled from the Schenectady plant, which has made turbines used around the world.
