From the Waterville Historical Society Instagram:
Here's a historic landmark that I'm sure no one alive today will remember. The Park Hotel was built in about 1804 on the land in between what is now Madison and Tower Streets. It was torn down in 1894 as the site was chosen for the Soldiers and Sailors Monument which was completed in 1899.
Found on Heaps of History, the 1873-4 map of Waterville shows the Park Hotel along with a broader view of the Village at that time for those interested.
Soldiers and Sailors Monument today. Click Here for the History thanks to Heaps of History. What a lovely view the Park Hotel must have had!
If you want a small glimpse of vacationing on Main Street, your best current bet would be the One Room School house on airbnb.
Or venture out to Loomis land!
This Wednesday Nick Piccininni will entertain for the Summer Bandstand Concert Series! Masks and Physical Distancing are required, with plenty of friendliness still required.
Summer Rec in a Bag is still available! Email mbarnes2286@gmail.com
