From the Waterville Historical Society:
At its Annual Meeting on May 5, Waterville Historical Society held a reception to honor Joseph W. Falk on his retirement from his 20-year tenure as Society President.  Over the past two decades Joe and his wife Kelly have spearheaded the growth of the Historical Society as a vital part of the community.  When the Society was without a permanent home, they established it as a historical museum for the Village of Waterville and Town of Sangerfield, first in the former Episcopal and Welsh Church and Village Hall on White Street, and for the past ten years in the Brainard House (the former YMCA and Waterville Public Library) at 220 East Main Street. They developed a series of educational and entertaining events to raise funds for the Society's programs, including the Summer Festival and Loomis Gang Country Tours, the Victorian Tea, and the Hop Dig, co-sponsored by Waterville First and Michael's Fine Food and Spirits. Throughout his tenure Joe has led the Board of Directors and volunteers in presenting lively and diverse local history programs and developing historical exhibits.  His legacy includes the Hop Cellar, displaying the Society's collection of hop growing and processing equipment, installed by a local Boy Scout troop, and the YMCA basketball court and bowling alley, restored by Kent C. Cole.  He has built community partnerships and obtained financial support from individuals, foundations, and businesses to restore and maintain the Society's headquarters, expand access for visitors with disabilities, and preserve and interpret the collections.  As Chair of the Exhibits Committee, Kelly Falk has developed exhibits on the Loomis Gang, the Brainard Family, Waterville native son George Eastman, and the early history of the Town of Sangerfield.  She has been the chief developer and guide for the Loomis Gang Country Tours, and is a sought-after speaker on the Loomis Gang, George Eastman, Waterville in the Civil War, and other local history topics.  The community owes a deep debt of gratitude to Joe and Kelly Falk for their tireless efforts and years of dedicated service in preserving Waterville history.
