- WATERVILLE HUB -

Earlier in the week we mentioned adding on a section to the blog each week that would honor the original purpose to share, remember, and connect stories of Waterville and it's people.
Welcome to the Waterville Hub- a collaboration between us here at the Hub of the Huddle and The Waterville Times!  You'll notice it matches the hometown, conversational feel of In A Timely Manner.  Please feel free to email comments and more to hubhuddle@gmail.com

Waterville Hub
by Patty Louise
This week we must start off with a nod of gratitude to the woman whose writings led to the blog Hub of the Huddle and this new column.
Flip Brown wanted to document the history and stories of Waterville, not just the facts but the impressions and memories people had of events long ago. She began with a column in the Times called In A Timely Manner, a mix of history, memories and current events.
From there she evolved to her popular blog, At Home In The Huddle, updating it for her readers until she retired and the Waterville Library took over blogging about life in Waterville.
To collect more memories and history, she started Story Swap on Fridays at the library. It was an informal collection of people of Flip’s generation who gathered to share what they recalled about various topics.
Ever the historian - a role she and her late husband Dick served for the village - Flip would try to keep people on topic, not always with success. However, her various efforts chronicled life in the area, and for that we thank this Massachusetts-born native whose family heritage can be linked to the Mayflower.
Her family will follow the Brown tradition with a Damn Fine Party April 13 at Four Eleven Tower.
Sympathy to the family and friends of Memorial Park School sixth grader Owen Fortnam, who died after a sledding accident last week.
Sure was quiet last week with schools closed for vacation. Hope those who escaped to warmer climates enjoyed their brief step into spring. For the rest of us, it’s coming.
Although there’s snow on the ground, it’s time to think about getting muddy. Registration is open for the seventh annual Daniel Barden Mudfest April 27.
Waterville native H. Russell Eastman has written a new book, ‘7/11: Finding the Right Path with God.’ He describes it as an inspiring true account of one man’s recurring encounter with devine intervention. It is available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Apple Itunes.
Get well wishes to Tony Heidel, who had shoulder surgery, and Sara Weaver, in Crouse hospital with serious bacterial pneumonia.
Happy anniversary to Dana and Dave O’Brien of Waterville.
Happy to hear the poodle taken from Brothertown Road last week has been safely returned home.
Best wishes to Tyler Keith, taking part in the first stage of training to become a U.S. Marine.
If you are antsy to get spring here faster, head on over to Four Eleven Tower Tuesday, March 6 - aka Fat Tuesday - for a Mardi Gras party put on by Michael’s Fine Food and Spirits.
