- AROUND TOWN -

What a weekend! Summer Solstice, Father's Day, and quite the WCS Graduation Day for the Class of 2020! The Graduation ceremony took place on Saturday, June 20th in the front circle of the Jr/Sr High as a Drive-In Ceremony. Due to the different nature of... all events at the end of this school year, you can view the Graduation Ceremony Facebook Live broadcast HERE
Below is a post from Principal Nicholas Rauch regarding some of the hard work and planning that went into that day. Congratulations to the entire Class of 2020 and all of the many, many supporting people that helped ensure they were truly celebrated.

Today the Waterville Central School District Class of 2020 received their diplomas in a manner unlike that of any class before them! For our graduates, I'm sure the memories of a drive in ceremony will stand the test of time.

For the purposes of keeping today's program short, I resisted the urge to thank the long list of people that made the event possible. Some were easy to spot, others worked behind the scenes.

I'll start with our planning committee, that consisted of our Senior Class Advisers (Mrs. Perrault, Miss Wanner, and Mrs. Woodhouse), our Senior Class Officers (Brianne Barnes, Paeton Barnes, Anna Beach, and Rylee Fallon), Mr. Bloomquist, Mr. English, Mr. St. Peter, Mrs. Gerhardt, and Mrs. Leone. This group met many, many times over the last 6+ weeks. During that time, we developed several plans based on what was the the current guidance provided by NYS. Obviously we were forced to change those plans several times, all while soliciting feedback from students and parents with the vision of delivering a great event for the Class of 2020! After today, I can confidently say this group really brought it all together!

We also had contributions from so many individuals and organizations in our community.

Thank you to:
Jack Buschmann at MKJ Farm (the original site we planned to use) for his immediate willingness to provide a venue
Tanya Decker for helping coordinate our pre-ceremony show from JVD's music and our stages from Joe Calidonna at Clinton Tractor and Implement Co.
Waterville Central School District Buildings and Grounds crew and the Village of Waterville DPW for altering and preparing the grounds for this event
Boy Scout Troop 108 for providing the tent for our sound equipment
Sports Boosters for distributing items as guests arrived and departed
Former WCSD teacher, Mrs. Nauss for the custom embroidered Class of 2020 masks
Brian Bogan and the Brothertown Scholarship group for their continued support of our students
Olivia Manderville, Deborah Nicotera, and Sue Gaiser for photographing today's event
Mr. English, Mrs. English, and Colton Fox for video-taping the event
Joe Nassimos for gathering video and photos from his aerial drone
Mr. and Mrs. Gray for directing our graduates after their photos were taken
The four fire departments: Waterville, Deansboro, Oriskany Falls, and North Brookfield for giving our students and their guests a proper send off.
Members of law enforcement who assisted with parking and security, including Jim Fister, Dave Poyer, Woody Zurek, and Deputy Warcup from the Oneida County Sheriff's Office
Merri-Rose Florist for flowers for our graduates
The Blunt Family for the hanging flower baskets
Aimee Cornish for providing even more flowers
The Evans Family and the residents at Waterville Residential Care Facility for the gifts for our seniors
The Waterville Times for the much anticipated coverage of the ceremony
And, of course, Mr. St. Peter for serving as our Master of Ceremonies

I'm sure there are others I've missed that played a role. If I omitted your name, please forgive me.

If there were an MVP award for this event, I would have to give it to Rich Bloomquist. When we decided that graduation was going to be outdoors and then with everyone in their vehicles, without hesitation he went to work. He researched the options and found a source to rent the appropriate equipment. Then, over the last three days, he spent HOURS configuring everything, placing speakers, running the appropriate cords and connectors, conducting sound checks, etc.. His efforts were critical to the success of today's event.

All of this is a sure sign of a wonderful community.

Great job everyone,

-Mr. Rauch

-IN THE NEWS- Although the groundhog did just predict an early spring and it certainly felt that way for a few days, it seems we are going to be getting a little more winter. With predictions of lake effect snow up to 10 inches by Friday morning and frigid weather coming this weekend it's probably best if we all enjoy this time doing something indoors with friends and family. For the latest on this winter weather visit cnycentral.com . ****** -IN THE MAIL- -The Farmers Market has been cancelled for today- From the Waterville Farmers Market: "Because of the weather showing more snow and gusty winds into Thursday, we are canceling today's market at Morgan's Hardware.
