Familiar face, Russ Petrie was "unmasked" and recognized by the Mohawk Valley Health System yesterday:

MVHS is "Unmasking our Healthcare Heroes"

Meet Russ Petrie, RPA, Physician Assistant in the Emergency Department, St. Elizabeth Medical Center Campus:
“I have worked in the Emergency Department for 27 years (since 1993) and I come from a family of healthcare workers and volunteers. I’m currently a paramedic and serve as fire chief for the Oriskany Falls Volunteer Fire Department. With the exception of the Ebola scare, I have never seen such a threat to our personal health and safety as I have with COVID-19.

I am extremely proud of the Emergency Department team I work with each day, which includes our providers, nurses, support staff, techs, lab, radiology, mental health, social/discharge planning workers, environmental services as well as the Police, Fire and EMS personnel. Our entire team has stepped up to the challenge. We work in harmony, giving 100% toward saving the lives of the patients we care for and I go home every day knowing that we made a difference in someone’s life.

If I could share one thing with our community, my message would be that we are open for business. It is safe to come to the ED – you don’t need to be afraid. We are seeing that patients who have delayed their visit are much sicker and have more extended recovery times than those that come at the onset of their symptoms - that is very concerning. It is especially important to seek medical assistance if someone is having chest pain or symptoms of a stroke. Our community needs to know that we have extensive decontamination and safety measures in place to protect everyone who walks through our doors. The exam space is thoroughly cleaned after each use to ensure the safety of our patients and our healthcare team.

I greatly appreciate the patience, support and understanding our families and the community during this difficult time and I look forward to better times to come.”

-IN THE NEWS- Although the groundhog did just predict an early spring and it certainly felt that way for a few days, it seems we are going to be getting a little more winter. With predictions of lake effect snow up to 10 inches by Friday morning and frigid weather coming this weekend it's probably best if we all enjoy this time doing something indoors with friends and family. For the latest on this winter weather visit cnycentral.com . ****** -IN THE MAIL- -The Farmers Market has been cancelled for today- From the Waterville Farmers Market: "Because of the weather showing more snow and gusty winds into Thursday, we are canceling today's market at Morgan's Hardware.
